In memory of the co-founder and former president Frans Baudouin (1920-2005), the Centrum voor de Vlaamse Kunst van de 16de en de 17de eeuw publishes a volume of articles by this eminent scholar, that were published between 1977 and 2002 in books and periodicals which may have become less easily available today. They are reworked here with new illustration material into the ten chapters of Rubens in Context. The book reveals a number of remarkable aspects of the rich personality of Rubens, his personal and social background, his interest for contemporary science and for the culture of Antiquity and his contacts with important personalities of his time. The chapters are published in their original language with abstracts in English for all the other languages.
